Sustainability at the Forefront: The Evolution of Victor Buck Services

This interview of Stéphanie Noël, CEO of Victor Buck Services, was originally published in Decision Makers Luxembourg 2023.

For over 20 years, Victor Buck Services has been creating and distributing paper and digital business documents for Luxembourg’s most prominent companies and organizations.

Can you present your company in a few words?

Victor Buck Services was launched in 2000 as a financial document management and distribution service provider. We built up a reputation for security and confidentiality, which attracted customers from equally demanding sectors, such as Bank & Insurance, Healthcare, Public Services, and Utilities. Today, Victor Buck Services defines itself as a sustainable partner for its customers offering them various services and solutions to create, produce and distribute their physical and digital documents. This includes printing and mailing services, document digitization services, and more. We aim to provide our clients with the most suitable and sustainable solution for their client communications.

Which challenges and opportunities do you identify, for Luxembourg and for your company?

Recent economic and human resources challenges are making the management of an inhouse print room and mailroom more and more questionable for most companies. It’s expensive because the machines need to be maintained, updated and replaced. Office rental prices in Luxembourg have skyrocketed in the past decade, making it costly to rent extra surface for a print and mailroom. On top of this, it is difficult to recruit qualified staff to manage and operate the mailroom. And the remote working trend has meant that the people needed for daily manual tasks — such as opening, scanning and distributing mail — aren’t always available on site. Companies just want to focus on their core business and avoid spending time, money and resources on non-core activities, which is why they choose to outsource these activities. As a PSF service provider, Victor Buck Services offers unique large-scale production capabilities to manage confidential paper & digital communications.

Can you highlight an important theme for the year ahead?

Sustainability is and will continue to be an important theme for Victor Buck Services for the years ahead. We want to help our clients fulfill their ESG objectives by helping them choose the most sustainable communication solution, paper or digital. With all the attention on digital, it’s worth noting that paper is a sustainable and impactful communication medium. As an example, mail is more opened, read, trusted and remembered than emails. We currently offer recycled and bio-sourced envelopes for our clients’ communications. Soon, we’ll offer alternative types of paper too. More importantly, we want to embed sustainability into our entire business model by prioritizing local suppliers and minimizing and recycling waste.

At Victor Buck Services, sustainability is also driving diversification & innovation initiatives. We have recently launched Joaneo®, a new brand producing NFC/RFID antennas and inlays in Luxembourg, using a unique eco-friendly production process. Inlays are printed on paper-based substrates, eliminating the need for plastics and making them recyclable.
